'The struggle between living in the moment versus escaping to another reality is intense since these two opposites strive to dominate. Caught in the swirl of soccer practices, play dates, work, and trying to find our way in our “make-over” culture, we must still create the space to find ourselves.'

Robert Horvath | Massive Luxury Overload
Robert Horvath / artist statement: 'We live in a society where celebrity worship and an obsession with wealth and luxury goods can coexist daily with news of impending pandemic threats and worldwide political and religious warfare. Gaudy displays of physical vanity and self-aggrandizing behavior have become an acceptable means to define our cultural persona. Tempted by the glow of the spotlight, and seduced by its excesses, we are told by our political leaders that we can solve the world's problems simply by shopping.
In my oil paintings on panel I am exploring this relationship between two realities: a shiny sparkling surface world and a dark and troubled world of fear. Young beautiful bodies vogue and pose in empty, acidic-colored spaces. Exposed skin takes on a cold, other worldly sheen wrapped in the latest designer fashions. Lurking behind the glitter, the desire for status motivates and defines the search for an advantageous mate. Viral entities, gas clouds and bubbling pink sores begin to roll in as if from a fog machine to obscure or engulf the figures in mid-come-on. This combined imagery forces a visual duality: the escapist pop culture youth can no longer hide from the horrors of reality.
With our attention being pulled in so many directions by media over saturation and the cult of celebrity, our society seems to turn its assessing eye further and further inward and away from the darkness of the world’s problems. Is this candy land we have created a beautiful barrage of harmless luxury, or will this insidious viral nature lead to our extinction?'
xanthic eye | Wonderlost: The Alice Project
The Wonderlost series is the artistic interpretation and dark twist on the numerous characters from Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass" stories. The theme across the whole series is to give each character the look of a porcelain doll, with very pale bleach white skin and bleached white clothing. To sharply contrast the sterile white throughout the painting, there are elements that are either black or blood red, either on the character's physical self (as in the form of hair) or in their accessories.

Grow Your Own 1up Mushroom Kit
The instructions are pretty simple. All you do is add potting soil to the green sewer-pipe-shaped flower pot, and push the spores deep into it. Soak the soil with water using the dropper, add a squirt of the food solution, and then it's off to a dark location for a few weeks. Three weeks later, what you see in the photo above is a perfect 1up mushroom. The packet claims that eating the 1up Mushroom will grant "immortal life beyond dreams of man."

"It’s been a bad few weeks in the Romanian press, and a bad few weeks for the Brits. With Romania’s EU accession looming, the Romanian tabloid newspaper “Soarele” has launched a campaign to keep British citizens out of Romania after the 1st of January 2007. Running headlines like “500,000 British workers to flood Romania” and “Brits want to steal our jobs”, fears of a post-accession influx of migrant British plumbers, builders and DJs has given way to a wave of anti-British feeling. Myself and DJ Logan have had enough. In an effort to stem this wave of vile anti-British propaganda, we’ve organised the event entitled “A New England”. I’ll also be brining along my *Theremin*, and will be using it to make a very limited range of vaguely Sci-Fi noises whilst waving my arms about in a Contemporary Dance-type manner.
Also, to celebrate the event, I’ve put together a new mix, also entitled 'A New England'.”

ImAllFake | Online Portfolio of Bart Van Leeuwen
'Bart Van Leeuwen's work immediately causes you to think futuristically. His work takes you down the thought path of a sci-fi movie with all the high tech looking, weird people and objects being used, always thinking and wondering to yourself will the future really be like that. Well his work will take you right to your robotic questions and make you delve more into them. But at the same his work has a statement, a real meaing behind it, wether it be about war, religion, politics, etc. no matter what you take from looing at the work, I can guarantee you this it will make you think and question.' 'My search for inspiration are deep and subjective, plumbing at depths far deeper than the normality of everyday life. Voyages beyond the scope of the body... I have tried to share these journeys in my images. I have mental images of bodies of visions and of desires, but also hopes and and enthusiasm for the spark of life. For these reasons these images breathe, and pulsates.
In this life full of contradictions I search for me... but i find life in this search, this gives life to these images.'
