Rokolectiv ‘09

ROKOLECTIV ‘09
FESTIVAL FOR ELECTRONIC MUSIC AND RELATED ARTS

The fourth edition of Rokolectiv - festival for electronic music and related arts - kicks off between 10th and 12th of April 2009. Over 20 artists will participate with concerts, installations, and special events.

The first two days of the festival are hosted by a new spectacular venue - Bucharest’s creative commodities exchange The Ark, a neonesque industrial building reconverted into space for contemporary culture. As usual, MNAC supports the last day of the festival.

Rokolectiv presents outstanding live acts of the moment, most of them a Bucharest premiere, starting with the rare appearance of the Norwegian dizzying disco magician Lindstrom, followed by Canadian house experimentalist Frivolous and Berlin’s biggest deepologist Prosumer, in an obsessively dancing Saturday night.

On top of everything, to spice up the magic during the night program - some floral and animal interactivity, and a bit of playfulness with Lego sounds…

Friday is a dubstep goes techno night with special appearances from Shackleton, 2562 and Deadbeat, under the close supervision of the Romanian producer of the moment TRG with a mind-blowing DJ set.

Fennesz brings on Sunday some of the Black Sea’s waves to MNAC, following the recent release of his new album. An eclectic night completed by a display of Optical Machines, a grand finale combustion by the noisiest neo-metal funksters MoHa, and a spacecraft managed by half of Zombie Zombie - Etienne Jaumet - and the Romanian duo Minus si Ion, in a quest for a deeper sound.

Minus: “I’ve been making tracks for a few years, trying to focus on the emotional aspect of music rather than its technical side. The style ranges from 8-bit and oldschool-electro to dub, downtempo and ambiental music with vague references to maths, fuzzy childhood memories and old video games."

The Emotion Organ by Amanda Steggell

Synaesthesia is the name of a rare clinical anomaly where people experience unusual and very real sensations, such as the taste of shapes, or the colour of sound.

'The Emotion Organ is a synaesthetic simulacrum machine where players can explore the sensational interplay of feeling, seeing, hearing, smelling and motion. It is also a time machine - a re-engineered pump organ from 1895 that combines both old and emerging technology and builds upon a trajectory of several centuries-worth of ideas about synaesthetic phenomena.
Without electricity it can be played as a conventional musical instrument, but when plugged in the organ produces varying combinations and intensities of sound, light, colour, scent, vibration and movement. When played it stimulates a highly subjective, cause-and-effect sensory immersion. When experienced as a spectator, the subjective affect of the player is modulated through the hypnotic visual effects of a propeller-screen, processed organ sounds and emitted scents.'

Absolut Machines | Absolut Quartet

The Absolut Quartet is a multi-instrumental music-making installation combining art and technology to create the equivalent of a classic human quartet. It is an 'automated multi-instrumental orchestral machine, a large-scale electromechanical sculpture consisting of three instruments and thousands of parts, working together to create one piece of music. The main timbre is a marimba played by balls shot from a robotic cannon. Other components include a series of wineglasses played by little robotic fingers and an array of robotic percussive instruments'.
Prepare to be amazed > check the video!

The musical installation is on display at New York and you can get the chance to interact with the machine by logging in to absolutmachines.com. You will enter a 4-8 second theme, and the machine will generate, in real-time, a unique musical piece based on the input melody you have provided. (via)

David E. Sugar - Chelsea Girls | directed by peepshow collective

'Chelsea Girls' video: youtube / quicktime

David E. Sugar embodies the Brikabrak ethos of pushing artistic freedom. His experiments in the world of micro music have put awards on the shelf and taken him around the world. David joins the label for a collaboration with MC Ears which was composed using just three gameboys.

Peepshow are not so much safety in numbers as was their initial intention when they first set out, as strength of 10 brains, 20 eyes, and 100 fingers whose eclectic approach offers new ideas which draw on the experience and individual skills of all involved. They are responsible in no small way for shaping and informing the rapidly-changing climate of visual culture today.

makunouchi bento - avebel | arhiva7.ro netlabel new release

Avebell
Dark copper bells, giant stone trees.
Sad birds looking in the lake to peck their distorted images.
Hairy grey grass growing fast on the inside.
And every senior ghost has its own bell.
There is not night or day - just fog from swamps.
There are no clouds, just slimy paper made zeppelins.
Thoughts and dreams are slashing each other to death.
Romans and greeks are the only citizens left.
And two venetian old fools.
They all look translucent like projected by
a huge Merkur portable projector (35mm - 1922).

Soldiers with led boots marching indefinitely,
Do not reach the battlefield ! There is Avebell.

Makunouchi Bento are:
Felix Petrescu (waka x)
Valentin Toma (qewza)
